Why do we desire more money?

I saw a question earlier about having 3 wishes. Most people said they would wish for money. Im a quite saddened at the human condition and how many people said they would want this. Yes, I agree it sure takes the sting out of being poor, and all that goes with that. But surely, if we became rich overnight, we would lose our friends because we wouldnt know if they were being friendly for other reasons. I would wish that we were all healthy, happy and contented, then that covers all bases. I truly dont think money makes you happy, and Im not rich, but recognition of, and getting what makes you happy is more important isnt it? Seriously, cant we recognise that money isnt the answer to everything?
